SATLOG AutoControlling uses V300 vehicle tracking devices 100% on ORACLE
SATLOG AutoControlling is a division of the Germany based company SATLOG GmbH www.satlog.com/eng. The company has more than 25 years experience in fleet vehicle management and controlling.
SATLOG has developed two lines of business: SATLOGconsulting and SATLOGsolutions. Both sides of the business have been in telematics for over 7 years. Since 2005 they have used the Prolificx range of V300 vehicle tracking devices running Oracle Lite in the V300 telematics system.
SATLOG AutoControlling is the method used by consultants and inhouse logistics managers to easily detect the weak points in a delivery fleet, resulting in 15% better efficiency across fleets.
Key performance indicators are highly measurable eg. delivery cost per pallet per drop at each customer location, driver productivity, and fuel consumption. Significant benefits can be gained from the data gathered, improving efficiencies for a broad range of industries including wholesale supply companies, and beverage companies and carriers specialized in contract logististics. The SATLOG ORACLE database has inbuilt intelligence including target times for delivery stops, target driving costs (which helps the internal or external experts to discover weak points faster than without the SATLOG telematics tools). On deployment SATLOG provides training courses to their customers to fully understand fleet analysis and vehicle management.
SATLOGsolutions has a group of internal IT-people who tailor company specific telematics solutions for the Oracle Telematics framework. The SATLOG telematics solutions can be integrated in other websites as OEM telematics solutions. This group configures telematics solutions such as the integration of temperature logging, driver card analysis (meeting EU-driver regulations), and crane movement activities on construction trucks etc. The Oracle Portal provides the information via a web-browser that can be tailored to the information needs of each user.
The Decision Process
SATLOG wanted a 100% Oracle solution and therefore chose the product set of V300 vehicle tracking devices enabling SATLOG to run Oracle lite on their telematics box. This enabled SATLOG to provide updates over the air, work in GPRS environment and access to a stable Oracle solution to manage massive amounts of data.
Together with Oracle Consulting, SATLOG tuned the Oracle consulting tool Micro Edge Server Framework to work in the harsh environment of a truck. The Vector300 technology, (made for the Oracle Lite solution) was tested by performing hundreds of test drives running 16 hours a day, in trucks across Europe.
SATLOG went from the early Oracle Lite release 1 to the actual Release 3 and is now prepared to roll out large deployments of telematics solutions with Oracle.
SATLOG solutions has appreciated the high level of flexibility of the windows CE 5.0 framework on the V300 which can be adapted to different external devices like CARD readers, Bluetooth temperature loggers for trailer temperature measurement in a short period of time.
Fleet management benefits that have come from the deployment of the V300 vehicle tracking devices have included the discovery of long yard times, detours of drivers, stopping times not meeting the target times, stops at unscheduled locations, and non-approval personal use of the vehicle.
Furthermore the fleet management benefits resulted in improved dispatching of trucks and cost/profit analysis of deliveries.
